Just got back from this.
If you haven't seen it yet, make plans to go. I'm obviously biased, because it's super furry, but it's easily the best film I've seen this year, and I think it'll be a serious contender for Best Animated Feature. The high points:
- It's a gorgeous film. The visuals are stunning, the animation is smooth, and there are lots of little details that make everything feel wonderfully realized.
- It's more adult-oriented than the typical Disney film and animated fare in general (i.e., Kung-Fu Panda), which results in a stronger, more coherent story. And the movie is all story; there's no filler, and no one ever breaks into song. (Ironically, this makes the soundtrack kind of forgettable, as it's all real-world pop music instead of the original orchestral pieces Disney often uses.)
- It's funny! The tone of the story is fairly dark and the film takes itself quite seriously, but there are a lot of laugh-out-loud moments to break the tension.
- The only real drawback is that the ending is kind of predictable–there's a lot of foreshadowing–and you'll see it coming before you get there.
Also, there's tons of porn on e621, if you're so inclined.

In my head, I could totally see and hear Officer Hops doing that.

Agreeing with OP
This is a surprisingly intelligent and clever disney movie. Nothing particularly kiddie, in fact its really serious most of the time - and quite funny too.

Saw this image and laughed way too hard at it. >>1219
Nice! I can work with this. Thank you.

Does this remind anyone else of Cheech's van art/dream sequence in that one Cheech & Chong movie…?
ID: 931e8 No.1228
Well, the yak at the nudist colony is voiced by Chong.

There were a bunch of little sly refs like that, like Judy calling Nick "very…articulate" or that Judy and Nick's civilian kit towards the end is basically Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit's, just modernized.
ID: 45e55 No.1233
Well yeah, but I never made the full connection beyond "stoner guy." Also I forgot that Finnick had purchased the van from Yax to begin with.

God, the shipping between those two is so damn cute.
Like, approaching Lina and Gourry levels.

I read somewhere that this movie topped Frozen's opening gross. This makes me very happy.
ID: 1fce9 No.1242
By a good $5 million, yep. $73m domestic opening, pushing it to around $235m overall. And it's not open in all markets yet, like Canada apparently. (Disney is balancing the release dates to school holidays so the maximum number of children can get in).
On the 'didn't notice it' front, based on the character list, Judy's noisy next door neighbors are a gay couple (Bucky & Proink Onyx-Antlerson, no joke). Not that it's monumental to the plot, but it's cute to know.

This ship is unsinkable.
ID: 657dd No.1269
Yeah, about that, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm pretty sure the people in charge outright said they don't end up romantically involved, so where is this all coming from? Just typical fandom?
ID: 45e55 No.1270
I think it's because one of the other designers involved said it was a possibility. So there's some conflicting information out there.
That being said, official anything hasn't stopped shippers in the past and won't stop them now. lol
ID: 657dd No.1271
Well not really, they kinda just used them as an example when asked if the characters of this universe can crossbreed.

Been waiting for more of her.

My heart can't handle the adorable.

I think they made the right choice in the switch plot wise. The shock collar plot had some pretty big logical holes in it, including "Why would predators live in Zootopia if they have to be collared?"

Finally got around to seeing this movie. Good. Really Really good.
The animation was just so gorgeous and fluid. Disney is the New Pixar. The jokes all hit their mark. The writing was good. The voice acting was…okay. there were some parts where you could tell that the actors were delivering their lines in a studio, but other than a few instances it was fine.
ID: cfb77 No.1461
Also, if they make a Zootopia 2, there needs to be so much flirty cop partner stuff.
In the end, the movie kind of reminds me of Castle in a lot of ways now that I think about it.

ha…I remember that from Tell Tale's Walking dead game…

So she was or is married. Given it's verified she's still around, I bet Nick used some of his hustle money to take care of his mom.

Great, now that song's stuck in my head, thanks a lot.

That depends on timeline
and with the starfox series getting Retconned again…

So Zootopia is now Disney's biggest box-office hit besides the Lion King and Frozen. Its not even done releasing, as it has a Japan release of April 23rd and recently opened in the UK.
Sooo yeah, maybe we might get a DVD-exclusive short or possible sequel. I mean, Frozen got a sequel.. soo..
