This could be veeery good…

… or veeeery bad.

Well, there’s a few factors that come into play here.

For starters, voice acting—namely that of Alan Young and June Foray. They’re both well into their 90s and while they did a good job on DuckTales Remastered in their respective roles (Scrooge and Magica), I can’t see them putting in the work for a multi-episode animated series at their ages. So you’d need new VAs for both of them. And since Alan Young owns the role of Scrooge, I don’t know how anyone else could live up to his standard. Oh, and while the Remastered team did their best to find Other Darrins for the roles whose VAs had died (most notably Gizmoduck), they still felt ‘off’, and the same effect could happen to the new series.

But the real dealbreaker will be the animation. DuckTales 2017 won’t be animated like its predecessor—but will it be 2D animation like Gravity Falls or 3D animation like every single horrible 3D show Disney’s ever put out? And how high a quality of animation is Disney willing to put forward for this show, knowing there’s going to be a lot of eyes on it?

I’m kinda hype about this, but I’ve learned to stay cautious. After all, I asked for a Rescue Rangers revival, and Disney granted my wish…with an in-the-works CGI/live-action film.

Why, yes. I didn't just totally forget about a character that's actually rather prominent in the show.

Nope. No derp here.

Webbigail is going to going to get on people's nerves.

David Tennant as Scrooge. I can dig it.

Various clips have been popping up lately. Here's the intro.

I've got mixed feelings. David Tennant is a pretty good Scrooge, and I kinda like how Webby's been handled, but I'm really not feeling the new voices for Huey, Dewey and Louie, and I'm still confused as to why Beakley was so incredibly changed.

Darkwing Duck will be in it

ID: 93b44  No.2283

Makes sense, considering they take place in the same universe.

Come to think of it, was there ever a reason given why Launchpad worked for Scrooge and Darkwing?

ID: 334e2  No.2284

I don't recall the specific reason why Launchpad works for Scrooge, but it's probably covered in the Ducktales pilot serial. He eventually leaves Scrooge's employ (off-screen) and joins up with Darkwing after Launchpad catches DW snooping around in his hangar. He happens to be one of Darkwing's biggest fans, and built the Thunderquack as an homage to him.

So I watched the first episode. Overall, pretty good. The art style is going to take some getting used to but it's not bad.

Really my only concern is that Webby seems in extreme danger of turning into a "quirky goofy lolsorandom silly but ubercompetent glitterprincess" archetype which would be both annoying and a severe disservice to the character. It's nice that she has a personality now but I reeeeally don't want it to be that personality.

I think what'll take a lot more getting used to is Huey, Dewey and Louie sounding so off.

Also, this video sums up most of my thoughts nicely and points out things I didn't even notice on first viewing.

Plenty of shows with similar setup seem to suffer from that problem. The writers think that just because there is one female character in the group of protagonists, that they have to make up for it by making her the smartest, flawless and all-around most competent character. It only does disservice to said character and makes her look like a blatant feminist fanservice.

ID: aa88b  No.2297

Honestly, it strikes me as trying to make another Mabel Pines in this case.

ID: d9152  No.2298

But Mabel wasn't perfect nor flawless, in fact she fucked up pretty often and she was technically responsible for Bill Cypher nearly destroying the universe.

I mean more in terms of basic character though. They seem to want her to be a similar character to Mabel but with less capacity to fuck up.
