Since the site is closing, I'm planning on setting up art posts for the Straight and Gay parts of Uberquest devoted solely on the art and scrap art, not the comic pages on U18chan. Any objections?

If you got enough content good enough for such threads, go for it. Though keep in mind, past UQ threads there didn't last long. Mainly due to the severe lack of porn.

I concur. We need more of this.

Yeah, I imagine quite a few people are upset about that… I won that auction slot, btw. However, my idea contains no Uberquest characters. Plus, according to the rules, you couldn't get NSFW of Uberquest characters with Original characters.

I would have asked for NSFW of UQ characters only.

ID: a4ae7 No.5875
I'd say so. Every other artist had the $1200 buyout (Chalo, Godai and Avencri). The UQ page only got a single bid of $200, and the person who won it said it won't be UQ related.
ID: 3b39f No.5876
? No, I don't even know what is this Uberquest auction. What is it ?
ID: e217d No.5877
Some sort of auction that went down over at the katbox, I don't know the particulars myself. I just assumed that the single bid on uberquest was discouraging or something.
ID: 04f67 No.5878
Over the Christmas season Avencri's sister came down with a double case of the flu and nearly died from it.
Because of some bullshit excuses his insurance refused to pay for it, so the Katbox banded together to raise money for his family so that they didnt go into penury paying medical bills.
We succeeded in large part due to several members offering up sketches and comic auctions.https://www.youcaring.com/hugo-arrambide-garcia-493631
You can see the fundraiser here. It's currently closed due to us having met the goal.

Actually the big buyout bid was $1000(which let you get 2 pages), and the regular autobuy was $700. Starting bid was $200, which was what I did for the comic auction with Skidd and Phuufy. But yeah, Chalo and Mastergodai has theirs snagged up quick, Avencri was soon to follow in his comic auction. But Skidd's didn't seem to have much traction. I'm still surprised I even managed to win that one. o_O

I guess a webcomic can consider itself pretty sucessful if random people on the internet draw smut of its characters. (especially of this quality)
Anyway, there is a vanilla version of the picture above.
ID: e84e0 No.5918
In regards to character design, maybe given the evident lust over the characters. Plot wise and… well, everything else, not seeing it, given the consensus here, u18chan, and at /trash/ (the only 3 places outside its home front even bothering to make a major thread over the comic, which even then, delves into mostly edits and non-creator lewds).

Chiefly because I want to see everyone bang.
ID: 6910c No.6431
I'm not going to register on their forums just for this, but,
my only "criticism" for this comic is that they're trying to shove too many arcs right out of the gate. Too many jumps between groups. It would work if the comic updated more frequently. Hell, I've read graphic novels that struggle to do this competently.
It's like trying to eat a Cheesecake Factory™ cheesecake in two bites. Sure, you'll get some of it in your mouth (and is potentially delicious), but most of it is going to be missed.
(oh, and also not fond of how fresh out of the cookie cutter, flat-as-cardboard characters come across at times. Especially earlier on. They're improving in this regard, but I still sense them slipping back into those archetypes from time to time.)

In all seriousness - patience is a virtue. We appreciate "constructive criticism" but yanno, needs a point.
ID: 2d378 No.6467
No, more like 90% of 8/16bits rpgs in existence with the 4/8 crystals the big baddy musn't get otherwise it's the end of the world
Even the guards looks like Kain from FF4.
But you're right, patience is virtue, it's how you deal with these elements that counts, but man I hope you got some awesome deconstruction in reserve.
ID: 0574f No.6468
But you didn't add any advice to help. All you said was "Wow, uberquest only did one original thing. I hope you guys do some good ol deconstruction soon."
Hell, at least people in the Las Lindas threads toss up different ways for things to go down in that comic.
ID: 386ae No.6471
>>6463>The author herself cares
Constructive criticism is kinda not the same thing as just saying "Your story doesn't have more than one single original element" as though there aren't already shittons of stories that use similar elements anyway. Wanna take a guess at how many things have elements that can be traced back to Fist of the North Star?
ID: 2d378 No.6472
Well you're right. Sorry if I came out as rude phsuke.
But really the advice is implied in the criticism.
Why did the "Kibbles really killed a guy" twit worked?
Because at first, UQ was treated as an RPG parody, so we didn't think of it seriously and out of the blue, the characters face the consequence of their previous act, even if it was a joke to begin with ! WOw that's good.
But now? The comic seriousness is set in stone, you can't do the same thing twice because everything is played straight.
So the only advice there is : Don't borrow everything straight outta retro rpgs without twisting them a little, without appropriating them, and when I say "appropriating" I don't mean "change their name and design"
Now it's just a matter of creativity, even if all the base elements are dull you can still find things to do with them… for example
This ancient civilization we saw here : >>5382
What if it was in fact Claire's world? And instead of being pulled in the past she went to the future ?
It would tie her to the whole storyline besides the "I come from the future and brought wacky tech with me" and it could lead to a very dark character dev since Claire will know her world's fate is to be destroyed.
And all that crystal stuff would only be ancient technology people in Fera don't understand anymore.
It's not very original either (nothing is really now), but it's a bit more subtle than playing rpgs tropes straight… especially if they aim to tell a grand story with many plot point and a strong background.
Btw Aradelle is a cute

This comic just became 10x more interesting. But, now we have yet to see if that was foreshadowed all along or if it's an attempt to force some originality into Uberquest.
Not that it would matter anyway. That page does everything right :
Great mood, intriguing setting, and well it's just interesting, more that mc guffins Ubers at least.
Good job Phuufy/Skidd, let's see how you're going to handle this

>>6804>now we have yet to see if that was foreshadowed all along or if it's an attempt to force some originality into Uberquest.
If this turns out to actually be happening, I'm going with the latter.
ID: 3d931 No.6812
Well there was a flaxh/back flash forward on/around page 27 that had a swirly lightning storm like she walked into, and maybe implied alternate futures or pasts.
Regardless of whatever this comes of, I expect it to be like that scene in Total Recall where the CEO comes in out of nowhere and tries to convince Ahnold that it's all a dream and needs to wake up. One scene that puts the entire comic into question.
ID: f1799 No.6814
But if you think about it, it can't have all been fake, cause we saw things none of the main characters could've even thought was happening. It'd be questionable writing at best.
ID: 7b426 No.6815
I'd say more like Bioshock.
Didn't anyone notice that there are two silhouettes, one looking a little more masculine wearing a lab coat? I bet that Claire's "dead" father. Maybe that lab accident had something to do with time or alternate dimension travel and he got zapped into that place and set up shop. All that crazy shit on walls is probably alluding to him trying to tamper with time to prevent whatever has been "sown".
ID: 3d931 No.6817
You'll also notice that Claire doesn't have her own pod, the one that would contain her just has a spinal column. Something to think about.

He has the personality of a curmudgeon, and any spark he and his wife may have had has set sail a long time ago. There are far more intimate candidates under his (and by proxy, her) service. The fact that all she does is sit around in a castle doing little aside from looking good and making appearances also doesn't help with her boredom.
Wouldn't be surprised about the small penis thing though, pretty sure Drayven was implied to have one at one point.
ID: 17091 No.6851
His personality isn't the best and there's a good chance that there's no spark between them anymore.
For all we know, he could have some bastards of his own
ID: 3d931 No.6853
So…this is claire from the future?
ID: 43991 No.6855
My theory is because Sesame and the Uber are now bonded she is seeing the Uber's memories in a dream but because Sesame doesn't understand many things her mind replaces some things with images she recognizes.
For example "Why are there so many mes?" can be seen as the Uber and other like it (hence why Sesame looks different in the other images) either undergoing a sort of training or experimentation. The image of Claire being the person who made it all happen so Sesame super imposes her friends image as Claire is considered a smart person.
Everything Sesame is experiencing could be the Uber trying to communicate on a sub-conscious level. And poor old Sesame hasn't a clue on how to interpret them fully.
ID: e217d No.6858
That's actually a pretty astute view on it.
Also, I'm pretty certain the ubers are currently conflicting with each other. Despite what the current one is suggesting for death, she is still in possession of her own uber even though she is crucified (note the nails on her wrists). The roots further suggest a parasitic connection, possibly the threads that have been 'sown' so to speak. The blindfold I presume involves her current lack of perspective, but the object piercing her torso (skin also nailed down), I'm gonna guess it involves severing her spine, her connection.
ID: 26907 No.6859
Did some edits, the newer version is on the Katbox.. just some minor stuff.>>6855>>6858

Combination of age, lack luster love (due to forced arranged marriages) and sense of adventure. Mostly together for political reasons, at least she isn't like Cersei having all her kids by her brother and what not. :P
Drayven is definitely Alphonse's though.
ID: 5c510 No.6861
also, is just me or the king is significantly older than the queen?
ID: 43991 No.6862
All in all this could be the way an Uber communicates with its host. First contact (so to speak) coming when Sesames mind isn't cluttered by things when she is awake. Who knows, the longer she is bonded to this thing the more she might start seeing n hearing it while she is awake.

So wait…this metaphor is weird. Harpooning the Salty Longshoreman with baby Gravy…
Harpooning = Penetration
Which would make "The Salty Longshoreman" Sesame's vagina.
With his Baby Gravy…baby gravy is obviously semen, but you don't penetrate with semen….
Also, why is the longshoreman getting harpooned? Isn't a longshoreman the one that does the harpooning?
Now "Having the Salty Longshoreman harpoon the Southern Clam" that makes sense.
Also, Born doesn't have an E in it.
And for some reason I read Claire's lines in Tracer's voice.
ID: 6910c No.6983
You can at least TRY being a little more subtle about your preferred Mason-ship, Claire…

I get to internally live vicariously through Claire because from all the art I’ve seen it seems people much prefer Mason with Kibbles ;_;
I get to sit in my rickety ship for Mason and Sesame..
ID: e217d No.6992
I'm part of the Mason x Sesame group myself. Nothing against Farron, but with his antics he'll find it hard to get away with it when it comes to Sesame (seriously, total grudge holder). Also he is Dante's brother, pretty sure he'll be unable to enjoy the catfights involved whenever they meet.
I'm not even going to get started on how broken Farron would be if he settled down, at least as he is now. Let character growth tell in time if he is able to withstand such a thing.
ID: 71c46 No.6993
Who's this People and why should we care what they think?
ID: e217d No.7027
Nah, not enough unintended innuendo dialogue here, claire-generated ones don't count of course.
ID: 77a0c No.7086
Man, Mason looks really skinny here. Now, Kibbs, on the other hand…
ID: ed6bb No.7207
I love how Kibbles has been drawn lately, but… her speech, I don't recall her talking that. It's almost like she switched mind with Claire or Farron.
ID: 3bff0 No.7208
Kibbles is definitely acting differently than normal. It's possible that it's not her (i.e., meddling by Valmont, who has already shown himself capable of crafting illusions, and who must eventually come into conflict with the party at some point), or that Sesame has slipped into one of the parallel universes from her nightmare. Notice that even though everyone got soaked in the rain the night before, Kibbles is the only one wearing a totally different set of clothes, including the ribbon in her hair (Mason and Farron's outfits have both changed slightly, but are not markedly different from what they were wearing before).
ID: e0700 No.7209
Kibbles has changed clothes before. IMO is just the authors not deciding yet what kind of personality she has.
ID: 3d931 No.7210
Maybe she gets surly when she's hungry.

ID: 5a4b7 No.7230
I feel like the overall dialogue quality has gone down since Sesame came back from that dream trip.
Maybe it's intentionnal, but between the forced sexual innuendos and every characters spouting slangs regardless of who they are (Kibs especially)
Almost feel forced, this trop describe this well : http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TotallyRadical
ID: d9dca No.7231
you know, that is a bit true, what kind of speech am I suppose to expect to be common? I mean its true theres always gonna be slang, but sorta just dunno what kind of speech am I suppose to expect of this so I can know "ok that sorta slang doesnt work"
language if not dialogue is a tough thing to deal and manage when writing.
ID: 26907 No.7232
Well UberQuest isn't about to get Shakespearean and be all "Art thou going to the east in yonder forest to search for ye food?" Sure it's a fantasy setting but it's not an equivalent to the 1600s of Earth. I don't think anyone anticipates that, but yeah.>>7230
You mean Claire's forced innuendos? It is *meant* to be cringy. Honestly, we're not trying to do anything different with our dialogue - if anything it feels more organic and easier to write now than ever before.
Characters grow into themselves, certainly. We had hints about certain traits that are maybe more apparent now. Subverting certain tropes - like say making Kibbles more than just the sweet, polite, clumsy type.. she can be sassy and demanding in her presence (Its not as sudden as you think http://uberquest.katbox.net/comic/39-the-adventure-of-learning/
,) Instead of making Sesame a tsundere, serious hero with a temper problem she can bite off more than she can chew, act too cocky or sensitive to others feelings.
It's an attempt to layer them and make them see, more three dimensional.
Though point taken about the dialogue, we will continue to work on it to make the comic better.
ID: 26907 No.7233
It's fantasy but the time-period is around the Age of Steam/Just prior to the Industrial Revolution -so 1800s - ish. As steampunk technology exists, some of the values and traditions do resemble more of a 1600s-era but knowledge and tech is a bit more modern.
ID: e217d No.7234
Well not so much difficult to read as a very stark contrast to the previous font. Careful using it during very dramatic moments.
