So it looks like Marvel might have finally managed to make a storyline that's even dumber and more universally reviled than One More Day.

>dumber and more universally reviled than One More Day.
That was the exact thought that I had when I first heard of it.

I understand what marvel is trying to do. It's STUPID but here's my take:
"Oh, you don't like Sam Wilson Captain America? You like Steve Rogers that much better? TOO BAD! HE WAS A NAZI THE ENTIRE TIME! GUESS THAT MAKES YOU A NAZI LOVING RACIST! LOSER! NOW GO ENJOY SAM WILSON OR YOU'RE RACIST NAZI SCUM!"

Yep. Okay, Marvel, sure thing. I totally believe Captain fucking America was a secret Nazi this whole time.

Christ, fuck Marvel's comics end of things so fucking hard.

I mean, Cap's greatest enemy is currently in possession of a very powerful telepathic brain. This is an obvious case of "intended for a plot."

OMD happened in the context of the Marvel EIC complaining very loudly for years that he thought the marriage was bad for sales. No one at Marvel is like "Cap being a nazi…there's a character we can relate to!"

This fellow rips Nick Spencer a new asshole on the matter (and Mark Waid while he's at it).

Man, the comic era is really dying if writers are unwilling to give new IPs a shot because the chances of them hitting top 50 within 6 issues are slim, especially if they are spewing this drivel, I'm pretty sure comic critics (the 'professional' variety anyways) love reactions to fans becoming disenfranchised with an IP more than they like the actual content at this point in time.

I could go off on a tangent on the writers who keep fueling this crap, but I'm not too big on comics to have all my bases covered view-wise.

There's actually many posts made in Tumblr that involved their younger relatives sobbing and heartbroken that their idol, plastered all over their bedroom walls, is a Nazi. It was… well, heartbreaking to read.

I like how Spencer said it would drive sales. Maybe it will, but Marvel pulling stupid shit like this is the reason I dropped my pulls entirely when they did Secret Wars. I've yet to find any of the new runs interesting enough to buy.

Even if this is the predictable "He was just mind controlled the whole time guys, gawd, calm down" it's being sold so poorly narrative wise that's infuriating.

Quesada will always be the biggest fucking douchebag in history of Marvel Comics and the prime example of how not to be an editor working for a comic book company. Or editor in general.

They think it'll drive sales the same way superior did. Getting the fanbase mad enough to buy it so they'll go "there's no way the ll do that!"

Nick Spencer broke into the big 2 writing Morning Glories for Image, a decidedly new IP. Comic book writers mostly take stabs at iconic characters like this because they grew up fantasizing about writing the book, not because they're "unwilling" to try new IP. Also, lets be honest, the money's better.

Superior was interesting though because even though the main book was a bit trainwrecky, a lot of the other stuff written with Spider-Ock was great. The crossover with Waid's Daredevil was amazing (THE DIE IS CAST).

Also, and obviously this is purely my opinion, if Captain Hydra gives us one moment as completely and utterly character perfect as the one Superior did (pic relevant), it'll juuuust about have been worth it.

Nothing will ever justify or excuse taking a patriotic character created by two Jewish men to punch Hitler in the face and saying he was secretly a Nazi this whole time and essentially telling countless kids–and adults who grew up idolizing him–that they're all a bunch of Nazi-lovers.

I'm kinda paraphrasing something Linkara once said here…

I'm allowed to believe ridiculous things. I can believe a multi-billionaire playboy flies around in a suit of armor powered by a reactor in his chest. I can believe a high school student was given superpowers by a spider bite. I can believe that a mercenary was drive psycho bonkers crazy by military experiments and is aware that he's a character in a comic book.

But I CANNOT believe that Captain America, one of the most beloved superheroes of all time… Was actually a Nazi all along.

So it turns out he was being mind-controlled all aong, despite Marvel's previous insistence that he wasn't.

Yeah, I smell backpedalling with all the force of a backwards Tour de France.

Honestly I figured it was a clone or something.

ID: 911a1  No.6657

Yup, super backpedaling when sales dropped like a stone and they got a ton of negative attention in the press, I'm guessing, and more than a few angry letters from parents.

And surprising no-one, the writer for the "Nazi Captain America" story turns out to be a racist, conservative fuck who ran for a seat on the Cincinnati City Council in 2003 and 2005., when his platform was "eliminating human services in Cincinnati, beefing up its police force, expanding its jails, and ridding its streets of criminals and homeless people."

https://amazingcavalieri.blogspot.hr/2017/05/a-primer-on-nick-spencers-shitty.html

This shit apparently affected Marvel so badly that, instead of refusing to drop the storyline like a bag of shit it is, they insist that their latest lineups have been failing because "they don't want diversity in comics". But as this article explains (and as we all know), it has nothing to do with diversity, but Marvel's incredibly shitty and outdated practices.
